Oh Wonder

The London based duo, Oh Wonder, is consisted of Anthony West and Josephine Vander Gucht. Their slow, R&B and electronic pop influenced songs are pleasant listening.

Their intertwining melodies paint a feathery sound. Their vocals combined with synths, drums, and bass will make for a lovely overall sound.

Starting off as solo artists, the duo came together with the intent of writing music for other artists. They co-wrote songs and both recorded vocals with the intent to have the ability to pitch the song to either a male or female voice. They uploaded these songs on Soundcloud to make a portfolio, but their plan backfired when users started listening and sharing their music.

Between September 2014 and September 2015, they released one song on the 1st of every month on Soundcloud. Then a year later, their debut album, Oh Wonder, was released. This album consisted of the songs from that year span, plus a few.

From a business perspective, this way of releasing music didn’t make sense, however from a fan perspective, it was perfect. Releasing one song a month for a whole year would keep fans interesting and excited for new music. Usually, artists release albums of 12-15 songs that they put their life into for an extended period of time. Most of the time, a lot of the songs go unnoticed on an album. So, for Oh Wonder to release their music this way was really smart because eventually by the end of the year, their fans had already listened to the majority of the album. Even with their fans knowing most of the songs on the album already, once it was officially released it still made it on the UK and USA charts.

Off their debut album, take a listen to Drive, Livewire, and Without You.

Oh Wonder released their sophomore album, Ultralife, on July 14, 2017. Some of the tracks include Lifetimes, Ultralife, and Bigger Than Love. Their new album reflects a little bit of a different sound based on their experiences from touring the years before. It reflects on the feelings they have felt from traveling around, sharing music, and playing over 100 shows. From making music in their homes and uploading to Soundcloud to touring all over the world, they never imagined this would be their new life.
