Maggie Rogers just released a new song since her acclaimed EP, Now That The Light Is Fading (February 2017). She has been touring her EP for the past nine months and the unreleased record was a part of her set list every show. After months of listening to live show recordings, it is very exciting to hear the studio track.
The song, Split Songs (released September 20, 2017), is inspired by the outdoors and tells the message to take on life with full force. It has more pop qualities than her previous releases, and the R&B vibes will get you moving. She has incorporated a lot of her own recorded sound samples from her collection that she has put together over the last few years. Specifically, the breathing sample was recorded on a hiking trip she took with other musicians in Oregon.
Split Stones was actually created when Maggie was still in college, so it has been with her for a long time. She thought about including it in her EP, but didn’t feel as though it went well with the other five tracks. As she said on twitter a few days ago, this song is a “parting gift” for those who have been with her on her crazy ride the past year.
Maggie also hints on twitter that she won’t be putting out music for awhile. “This is me saying goodbye for a little while. Here’s to the end of the beginning and the start to everything else.”
On a day off in Amsterdam (June 2017), Maggie filmed a music video on her phone with her friends Taylor Brock, Chelsea Van Hooven, and Leah Wiedenmann. Her happy nature and way she portrays herself, will leave you smiling and dancing along with her.
