Keep you Roots low, Doves free, and your Water fresh.
Fordson Labs dropped A True Exchange last Friday bringing funky, chill vibes that you can add to all your summer playlists . The group consists of King Cole (Coleman Greene) and The Cartier (Carter Ward), who have been making music together since 2015. The Richmond based hip-hop duo are currently in college (Carter – Virginia Tech, Coleman – Wake Forest) but still continue to release fresh tracks.
The refined lyrics and creative layering of sounds is what is most impressive to me about the group. They even reference places in Blacksburg, where Carter and I go to school, which I thought was cool ~go hokies~(Dearest). Fordson Labs have been bringing an organic approach to a new era of hip-hop.
With many Soundcloud rappers/musicians trying to make a name for themselves, these two have a sound that is much different, in a good way. They have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the hip-hop/R&B genre, by pushing their musical boundaries and creating art that they love.
Their name has become more known since their breakout year in 2017 when they opened up for both Soulja Boy and Cash Cash.
A True Exchange is an 8 song project that was created at the end of Spring and the beginning of Summer. Everything is written, produced and recorded by themselves. It is the next step in their musical journey, where they take time to sharpen their sound and expand their music catalog. The tracks are lighthearted and feature a variety of styles and instrumentation. Lyrically, it touches upon the artists’ experiences over the last 6 months. Take a listen below!
